About Us
We do the hard work so you always know where you’re headed and can feel assured about your future prospects.
WHAT’S IN A NAME?
Who We Are
Cygnus [ sig-nuhs ] : Latin (genitive Cygni), literally, swan
To some, Cygnus is a constellation taking the form of a swan. To others, the Latin definition.
With regard to financial planning, our take on the name is twofold:
• As you might use the Cygnus constellation for navigation, so Cygnus Financial Planning helps clients navigate an often complex financial landscape.
• A swan stays graceful whilst working hard underneath; as Cygnus Financial Planning deliver a composed and disciplined approach, allowing our clients to achieve serenity.
The name symbolises the approach we take: we act as a reliable guide and do all we can to keep our clients calm at the surface, so they can feel assured about their future prospects.
Cygnus was founded by Pat McGee and Jon-Paul Rougeolle, aiming to work solely for a select number of clients, improving their prospects and trying to remove many of the conflicts found within financial services.

OUR ADVISORS
JON-PAUL ROUGEOLLE
Jon-Paul Rougeolle
I’m originally from Derbyshire, went to university in Bristol and gained the majority of my professional experience with a FTSE 100 firm in the same city.
I qualified as a Chartered Financial Planner back in 2012 and moved to Warwickshire to deliver personal financial advice to clients locally.
As a specialist pension adviser working for a big company, I learned how to analyse and model complex financial affairs but felt there was too much conflict working for an asset manager. Their end goal is the accumulation of assets whereas I want to help clients enjoy their money and keep more of it for themselves.
The same issues prevail today; many companies are more interested in your money than you as a person. Additionally, I consider that fees remains too high relative to the solutions being put forward.
Whilst some sophisticated solutions may have a place, I believe that where they’re used they must pay more to the client than they cost.
My experience, expertise and continuing professional development enable me to cut through the noise and put together a clear strategy for my clients so that they may live confidently, knowing that all outcomes are covered.
I currently live in Rugby with my wife, daughter and son. Most weekends are spent with my family, cooking, outdoor pursuits, reading and following my daughters football team.
I keep active by cycling, walking and playing league badminton; I’m also a committee member for the badminton club I represent.
My qualifications are well beyond the norm for most advisors. This reflects both my ongoing desire to keep learning and my intention to deliver the best outcomes for the clients I serve.

I worked for a large building society early on in my career and enjoyed success in a number of managerial roles, eventually discovering that I really enjoyed being a Financial Planner as I love working with people to help solve their problems.
A move to a FTSE 100 financial firm followed which gave me a bigger platform and a greater capability to do the job – it also enabled me to push on and achieve Chartered Financial Planner status.
The accumulation of knowledge eventually led to wisdom; I came to realise that the approach of large financial companies is very often to deliver a commoditised service, quickly and often impersonally.
This approach might feel good in terms of things being done but too often we see the wrong thing being implemented. To do the job well requires the ability to be objective, to spend time with people and to pay attention to the detail.
This led to Jon-Paul and I forming Cygnus; we’re well qualified and well connected to be able to do the job to a very high standard. Deliberately small and personal, Cygnus allows me to work only for my clients and deliver the best outcomes for them.
I’m presently based in Norfolk with my wife and two sons. I help run my son’s football team which keeps me busy and keeping fit by taking coastal walks with my family.

SIMON BEVAN

I have over 20 years of experience in financial services having started at a large global bank and now working for Cygnus.
My background working for large companies enabled me to learn a lot about the profession whilst undertaking my qualifications.
It also enabled me to work on my problem solving skills and articulating often complex problems in ways that my clients could understand simply.
After a decade in my last role with a FTSE 100 company (where I’d progressed to Chartered Financial Planner status) I felt the objectives of the business were moving away from a client centric approach in favour product sales and asset gathering.
I became increasingly aware of the challenges and compromises when working for a large firm which was a conflict I grew increasingly unhappy with.
Joining Cygnus allows me to work with like-minded colleagues – Pat and JP – who also believe the key to achieving the best outcomes for clients is honesty through objectivity.
Being independent and working closely with clients means I know what matters to them and can offer the best counsel. I’m confident that the advice I offer is conscientious and delivered with the utmost of integrity.
I presently live just south of Chelmsford with my wife and sons; outside of work I enjoy both playing as well as coaching football and I enjoy hiking; particularly in the Lake District.
